Coaching others to grow

Coaching Others to Grow (Using the GROW Model )

Coaching isn’t solving problems for juniors, it’s helping them solve problems themselves. One effective framework is GROW:

· Goal – What do you want to achieve?

· Reality – What’s happening now?

· Options – What could you do?

· Will – What will you do, and by when?

Example

Junior: “I’m behind on the report.”

Manager asks:

· Goal: “What’s a good outcome?” → Finish by Friday, no late nights.

· Reality: “Where are you?” → 40% done; interrupted by emails.

· Options: “How to reduce interruptions?” → Mute notifications, ask for coverage.

· Will: “What’s your plan?” → Mute 9–11 AM tomorrow; check in at noon.

Why it works – Builds independence, saves time, and respects the learner.

Start using GROW in your next one‑on‑one.
